You’ve
probably already guessed by now that packing is the most frustrating
and time-taking part of relocation. As soon as you come to know that
you’re relocating, you should commence the packing process in advance so
it doesn’t get overpowering.
Create an Inventory:
You’ve
no doubt piled up so much odds & ends, some of which you don’t even
remember collecting in the first place. This is why it’s an excellent
idea to put together a house inventory from the beginning. Not just this
will revive your memory about what you own, it’ll also let you keep
track of the things you want to relocate with you.
Sort & Discard Items That you Don’t Require any Longer:
Categorize all your Possessions into 4 groups:
- To be packed: Be cautious here since the more stuff you incorporate to this group, the more space and time you’ll require for them. Simply pack & relocate possessions you really want to use in your new home.
- To be sold: You can put the unnecessary items on sale, either online or at a garage sale, to get some extra dollars for your approaching relocation.
- To be donated away: Donate items that you hardly use to charity.
- To be recycled: Any belongings you can’t sell or donate because they’re outdated, broken, or torn should be recycled.
Start Packing:
- Pack least used rooms at first such as unoccupied rooms and storage areas.
- Keep the bedroom items packing last so that you can have access to all your bedding and sleep comfortably!
- Pack the most difficult room first, because you’ll get gradually more & more exhausted with each day and room that passes.
Listed below are the Rooms you must pack in order:
- Basement & attic
- Garage
- Spare rooms
- Closets
- Guest bathrooms
- Kids’ rooms (invite them to get involved in the packing process & make a game of it).
- Kitchen (leave the main appliances and utensils you’ll require in days leading up to the relocation)
- Living room (get started with the large items you don’t require daily, such as end tables, extra chairs, china cabinets, bookcases, couches, etc.)
- Your bedroom
- Main bathrooms
As
a whole, you’ll wish to pack non-essential items first, which could be
anything in your house that you can live without comfily all through the
packing process until the relocation day. Also you may wish to pre-pack
low-priority belongings to get them out of the way prior to the most
essential packing starts.
